Kingsland Urban Design Competition Runner-Up
Kingsland’s creative residential and business
community is a key design driver. The design aims to express the diversity
Kingsland is home to. In order to make these salient elements of Kingsland
tangible, design interventions using planting, colour, landform, built
structure and materiality are all at play here. The seating nodes are flexible
in function, and their use is not fixed. They could be used to accommodate for
group seating, individuals to recline on, and children to play on. A catalyst
that promotes more interventions on any scale or budget, spontaneous or
planned, showing Kingsland and the wider Auckland what can happen when we grab
a piece of our city streets for ourselves, and the endless opportunity that
comes with it.
